EMDR Therapy:
Processing Trauma Without Reliving It
“You might feel stuck in something your mind understands—but your body hasn’t caught up with.”
You might understand something logically, but your body still reacts like it’s happening now. Maybe certain memories feel close, or your nervous system shifts quickly into overwhelm, shutdown, or alertness. This isn’t a failure, it’s how trauma can live in the body. EMDR is one way we can begin to gently shift that.
But, What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapy that helps the brain process experiences that feel stuck. Using guided eye movements, tapping, or sound, we support your nervous system in reprocessing memories so they feel less intense and more integrated. You don’t have to explain everything in detail for it to work.

Ok but what does EMDR feel like as a client?
You stay in control the entire time. We move at your pace, and nothing is forced. You won’t be asked to share anything you don’t want to. I guide the process while you notice what comes up, and we can pause whenever needed. The goal isn’t to overwhelm you—it’s to create enough safety for your system to process.

EMDR isn’t just about talking, it works with how trauma lives in the body and nervous system. For many people, especially those navigating ongoing stress or systemic harm, it can help shift patterns that feel deeply wired. It’s a way of supporting your system in releasing what it’s been holding, without forcing you to relive it. To finally, just maybe, let that shit go.

OK, but am I right for EMDR?
EMDR can support with experiences that feel unresolved whether or not you call them trauma. This might look like intrusive memories, precious SA, feeling unsafe even in safe situations, chronic anxiety, shutdown or numbness, or beliefs like “I’m not safe” or “something is wrong with me.” We work with what’s present for you. It can all be on the table.

Wait... is this Hypnosis?
Nah. EMDR isn’t hypnosis, and you remain aware and in control. We go slowly and build resources first. You don’t need a perfect memory of what happened for it to work. Your system already holds what it needs—we just work with that.

Resourcing? Wait, what is that?
We don’t jump straight into difficult material. First, we build resources—ways for your body to feel more supported, steady, and anchored. This can look like grounding, connecting to safe or neutral experiences, and strengthening what already helps you cope. These supports stay with you throughout the process.

Ready?
If this feels like something you’re curious about, we can talk. You don’t need to be sure EMDR is right for you to reach out. We can start with a conversation and see what feels supportive, at your pace.
